Benzene

Liquefied petroleum gas is a flammable mixture of hydrocarbon gases used as a fuel in heating appliances and vehicles. It is increasingly used as an aerosol propellant and a refrigerant, replacing chlorofluorocarbons in an effort to reduce damage to the ozone layer. When specifically used as a vehicle fuel it is often referred to as autogas.

Toluene

Toluene formerly known as toluol, is a clear, water-insoluble liquid with the typical smell of paint thinners. It is an aromatic hydrocarbon that is widely used as an industrial feedstock and as a solvent. Like other solvents, toluene is sometimes also used as an inhalant drug for its intoxicating properties, however, this can potentially cause severe neurological harm.

Xylene

Xylene is an aromatic hydrocarbon, an organic compound created along with benzene and toluene by extraction and distillation in the petroleum refining process known as catalytic reforming. Xylene is also created from coal carbonisation in the manufacture of coke fuel. Xylene is mainly produced as part of the BTX aromatics. Xylene is used as a solvent. It is a common component of ink, rubber and adhesives. In thinning paints and varnishes, it can be substituted for toluene where slower drying is desired, and thus is used by conservators of art objects in solubility testing.
